Unusual and Undomesticated Animals That People Care For

Posted by Spencer Jones in June 11th 2009

Most families have had a pet at some point or currently own one. Pets are fun to have and a great addition to any family. Generally dogs are the most beloved animals in the country and for a good reason. Dogs are nice, fun, safe animals that are usually great with kids. However, they can also sometimes develop issues such as dog skin allergies and sometimes they have to get dog vitamins. These issues are very unfortunate. There are some solutions though. For the family that just doesn’t want to deal with pet illnesses, they should get animals that might be slightly more dangerous, but also are less prone to illness.

The first animal that probably wouldn’t have as many medical problems is a tiger. Tigers are horribly unpractical in up keep and are very difficult to acquire. That being said, a strong tiger would probably not have problems with the health issues that every day pets have. Mike Tyson kept a tiger in his house when he was the heavyweight boxing champion and has always said that he enjoyed his tiger very much. However, in the negative column tigers probably wouldn’t be very good with kids and could harm people that come over to visit. So, if purchasing a tiger one must be show extreme caution and try to avoid lawsuits.
Another uncommon and unpopular animal that would make a good pet is a bear cub. Bear cubs are small, hairy and adorable. The only difference between them and mainstream domesticated animals is that these things grow up to be giant, ferocious beasts. In fact, t Animal Planet often has stories of people raising bear cubs and then releasing them when they get too big for the house. The only problem with this is that when they are fed by a baby bottle as cubs, the bears may not have the instincts that it should to live in the wild anymore and could die on it’s return to the wilderness. This seems inhumane and therefore bear cubs should probably not be kept as pets by anyone under any circumstances.

Finally, the third not mainstream animal that could make a good pet is the squirrel. Squirrels probably won’t take much care, and nobody can deny that they are tiny and cute. Just provide the little rodent with a nice place to sleep every day and a few acorns here and there and it would probably be very happy. It would seem that squirrels would be pretty easy to domesticate because they are extremely docile and friendly generally. Nobody ever hears stories on the news of people getting attacked by vicious squirrels in parks so they should be decent pets.

Animals are extremely fun and almost everybody wants one, has one, or has had one. However, mainstream pets aren’t for everyone. Some people enjoy having a tiger around the house and maybe others would like to have bear cubs. If they’re willing to take on the cost, and in some cases the risk, then no law must stand in these people’s way.
